This workshop is designed for faculty and staff looking to create new learning outcomes or update current outcomes to better assess student learning. Participants can expect the first hour of the workshop to highlight cognitive and affective learning outcomes and how to construct meaningful student learning outcomes using the "outcome formula". In addition to learning about the development of the learning outcomes, this workshop will also delve into ways to effectively measure various learning outcomes. The second hour will provide participants the opportunity to develop outcomes and to receive and provide peer feedback. Staying for the second hour is not required, but is recommended. To further help make the workshop more meaningful to you, please bring current learning outcomes in use or ideas about what you would like students to learn from your course, program, or activity.
Participants will be able to...
- distinguish between cognitive and affective types of learning outcomes
- identify relevant considerations when writing learning outcomes
- create effective learning outcomes
- determine effective assessments for your learning outcomes
